Bennetts history
Bennetts is a family, owned business which began in 1998 by Clayton and Mary Bennett. Bennetts is located in Mangawhai in the North of New Zealand and has become an integral part of the community. Bennetts are French inspired handmade chocolates. The process involves getting a big piece of ganache, which is then cut into small pieces. The chocolate is then ‘enrobed’ with a small layer of chocolate. Lastly, it is hand decorated.
Bennetts prides itself on being made locally in New Zealand from local ingredients. Bennetts combines unique flavours to create a point of difference from other mass-producing chocolate organisations.

Fun Facts about chocolate
According to BBC white chocolate was originally created as a medicine for children. This occurred in Swizerland in 1930. The doctors wanted to give children a vitamin-enriched milk. However, children thought of milk as baby food and did not want to drink it. Cocoa butter was added to the milk and white chocolate was born. Once it was created it was extremely popular and so the product was sold world-wide.
A lot of the most loved chocolate bars were made almost 100 years ago in the 1920s and 1930s. Some of these chocolate bars include, Flakes, Fruit and Nut and Crunchies which were created by Cadbury in 1920. Other bars include Milky Ways, KitKats, Maltesers, Aero and Smarties.
